MINIMAL JIM

Saw the light like a distance star
rising over,
the crest of Mars…
Stranded there for a year I swear,
in the godless scape
of the Martian air.
Then in the distant low light dawn
we saw the ship
shadow the sun.
Bursting like a dust cloud fire
into the dawn,
the flames climbed higher and higher.
Dreams of my home haunt me in my sleep.
The valleys and rivers that I will never see.
It’s so alone,
we were ten and now we are three.
We live,
we survive,
as death waits patiently.
I can’t see by the light of the day.
lost my sight, my crew,
and lost my way.
I can’t feel in the tips of my toes.
last transmission sent to home.
I can hear the sands of the night.
as they blow sad,
they almost cry.
I see my wife and son like a dream
and now I will lay down to sleep…
